The United States retained the Solheim Cup at the Sugar Grove Golf Club, Illinois, when the strength of their singles play won the day.

With the sides tied at 8 points apiece overnight both sides would have been looking to start well, but it was the States that drew first blood when Angela Stanford crushed Britain's Becky Brewerton 5&4 in the second match out.

With Paula Creamer and Michelle Wie also winning early on it was always going to be an uphill struggle.

The USA have now won the past 3 Solheim Cups.
